Before starting, preheat the oven to broil.Gather all required baking tools.Garlic Guide for Step 1: 1/8 tsp mild, 1/4 tsp medium and 1/2 tsp extra! Peel, then mince or grate garlic. Heat a medium pot over medium-high. When hot, add 1 tbsp butter, then swirl pan until melted. Add garlic, then stir until fragrant, 30 seconds. (NOTE: Reference garlic guide.) Add crushed tomatoes and 1/4 tsp sugar. Season with salt and pepper, then stir to combine. Cook, stirring often, until fragrant and warmed through, 1-2 min. Remove from heat.
Remove fine herb and olive oil focaccia from packaging and transfer to an unlined baking sheet. Using a serrated knife, cut the focaccia in half, horizontally making sure you don't cut the bread all the way through, then rotate the focaccia 90º and cut into 4 slices, again making sure not to cut all the way through. (NOTE: You should have 8 pieces in total)Spread half the marinara over focaccia, then sprinkle cheese over top. (TIP: Make sure some of the cheese enters the cuts of the bread!)
Broil in the middle of the oven until cheese is golden-brown and foccacia is warmed through, 3-5 min. (TIP: Keep an eye on the focaccia so it doesn't burn!)Serve focaccia directly on the baking sheet. Transfer remaining marinara to small bowl. Serve alongside focaccia for dipping. To serve, tear or cut pieces
