Instructions

  • Add cavatappi to the boiling water. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until tender, 8-9 min.
  • Reserve 1/4 cup pasta water (dbl for 4 ppl), then drain and return cavatappi to the same pot, off heat.

  • Meanwhile, arrange bacon strips in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Roast bacon in the top of the oven until crispy and cooked through, 8-12 min.**
  • Set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • When cool to touch, crumble or cut bacon into 1/2-inch pieces.

  • Meanwhile, heat a large non-stick pan over medium heat.
  • When hot, add 1 tbsp butter (dbl for 4 ppl), then swirl the pan to melt, 30 sec.
  • Add mirepoix and peas.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, until tender-crisp, 3-4 min.
  • Season with 1/4 tsp garlic salt (dbl for 4 ppl) and pepper.

  • Sprinkle Cream Sauce Spice Blend over veggies.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, until veggies are coated, 1 min.
  • Add reserved pasta water and cream cheese.
  • Cook, stirring often, until cream cheese melts, 2-3 min.
  • Add cream and cheddar cheese.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir until cheese is melted.
  • Season with 1/4 tsp garlic salt and pepper.

  • Add sauce and bacon pieces to the pot with the cavatappi.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

  • Divide mac-n-cheese between plates.
  • Top with crispy shallots.
