Its all or nothing for tonight's dinner! Taking notes from everyone's favourite bagel topping, were seasoning steak with savoury garlic salt and nutty sesame seeds before searing and topping with a creamy dreamy horseradish sauce.

Cooking Steps

  • Peel, then cut potatoes into 1-inch pieces.
  • Add potatoes, 2 tsp salt and enough water to cover (by approx. 1 inch) to a large pot (use same for 4 ppl). Cover and bring to a boil over high heat.
  • Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-high. Simmer uncovered until fork-tender, 12-14 min.

  • While potatoes cook, trim sugar snap peas.
  • Halve, then remove stem/ core from mini peppers.
  • Thinly slice chives.
  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
  • When hot, add ___ to the dry pan. Toast, stirring often, until golden, 3-4 min. (TIP: Keep your eye on them so they don't burn!)
  • Transfer to a plate.
  • ONLY DO HALF : Crush crispy shallots

  • Add snap peas, peppers, half the garlic salt and 1 tbsp (2 tbsp) oil to an unlined baking sheet. Season with pepper, then toss to combine.
  • Roast in the bottom of the oven, stirring halfway until tender-crisp and golden 7-10 min.

  • Heat a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
  • While pan heats, pat steaks dry with paper towels. Season with remainig garlic salt and pepper.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds over top (ONE STEAK ONLY).
  • When hot, add 1 tbsp (2 tbsp) oil, then steaks. Sear until golden-brown,1-2 per side.

OR

  • Sprinkle seeds all over steak.  
  • Top steak with crispy shallots?
  • Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Roast in the middle of the oven until cooked to desired doneness, 4-8 min.**

  • Drain and return potatoes to the same pot, off heat. Mash cream, half the cream chese, half the chives and 1 tbsp (4 tbsp) butter into potatoes until creamy. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  • When steaks are done, remove from heat and transfer to a plate.
  • Loosely cover with foil and set aside to rest for 2-3 min.
  • While steaks rest, add sour cream, horseradish sauce, and cream cheese to a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Stir to mix.

  • Thinly slice steaks.
  • Divide mash, steaks and veggies between plates.
  • Spoon sauce over steak.
  • Sprinkle crispy shallots and remaining crispy shallots over steak.
